With pregnancy comes significant physiological changes, perhaps changing moods, expectations, fears and excitement. Your body knows what to do. Massage and reflexology can be such a fantastic support during pregnancy, alleviating and preventing discomfort as your body is going through hormonal and physiological changes.
Pregnant clients find Deepa’s pregnancy massage not only deeply relaxing but they also feel great relief from lower back and hip pain, pelvic girdle pain (previously known as SJD), neck and shoulder pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, leg cramps and water retention.
During your massage, you will most likely be lying on your side as I work on your back, neck, shoulders, hips, legs and feet. I use a gorgeous massage wax especially created for use during pregnancy. It contains a blend of olive, apricot kernel, rose hip oil and Mandarin essential oil. Rose hip oil is wonderfully effective at helping to prevent stretch marks. Mandarin is the only essential oil considered safe to use all throughout pregnancy and is also great for preventing stretch marks and for keeping the skin soft, supple and stretch-mark free!
Reflexology can help with typical symptoms during pregnancy including lower back pain, pelvic girdle pain (previously known as SPD), constipation, nausea, insomnia, anxiety and oedema.
Recent studies have shown that regular reflexology throughout pregnancy significantly reduced both the time in the first stage of labour and the pain throughout it (1). A second study showed that reflexology improved the quality of sleep in post natal women (2).
