Nurturing Light ~ An Autumn Yoga & Meditation Weekend with Deepa & Rashmi

We are delighted to host a soulful weekend dedicated to women who would like to learn more about yoga practice, engage mindfully with life, and flourish in an inclusive, safe, community environment. Located approximately 1hr 45mins drive or 1hr 15mins by train from London, we will be surrounded by the serene English countryside - a perfect setting to reconnect with heart, mind, body and spirit through movement (asana), breath (pranayama), and meditation (dharana and dhyana).

Nurturing Light ~ Sat-cit-ananda

As nights get longer heading into the darkness of winter, this retreat will focus on recognizing the inner light of individual presence (sat-truth), reconnecting to the shared human capacity for awareness (cit-consciousness), and resting within the full potential (ananda-bliss) of illuminated aware presence.
Inspired by the season's Hindu celebrations of Diwali (Festival of Light) and Navaratri (Nine Nights of the Goddess), this retreat welcomes women of diverse backgrounds and all ranges of yoga experience. We honour and welcome your wisdom, love, and courage.

Location

The Quaives is situated 15 minutes from Canterbury and nestled between 2 idyllic Kent villages Ickham and Wickhambreaux with stunning countryside, rivers, and streams all around.  Located approximately 1hr 45mins drive from London or 1hr 15mins by train from London St Pancras to Canterbury East or West.

The Grounds

There are 9 acres of manicured gardens, with a walled secret garden and a beautiful large pond.  There is a tennis court as well as an outdoor wood-fired Finnish hot tub looking out over the gardens into open fields beyond.

Yoga Studio

The Studio is incredibly light and spacious with underfloor heating throughout.  The studio is also available between yoga sessions for silent mediation time to yourself. We make it super cosy in the evenings with low up-lighting. Equipped with all the yoga mats, blocks, straps, blankets and cushions one would need.

Meals & Saloon

Everyone eats in the Saloon, a self-contained  Scandinavian style cafeteria, with a self-help kitchen for tea, milk, water and fruit on offer at one end and with sofas and a log burner at the other end where guests can chill, read, chat and help themselves to cups of tea.

The food is fresh, nutritious, organic and locally sourced as much as possible. All chefs have trained with Holistic Kitchen Academy. All meals will be vegetarian and  dietary requirements will be catered for.

Massage Treatments

We have a wonderful and talented Reiki healer and Lomi Lomi massage therapist, Devanshi, who is available for 60 minute sessions. Book a treatment early to avoid disappointment as there are limited time slots.

Activities

Yoga

Daily morning and evening practices. There will be a more dynamic practice in the morning and a slow, restorative practice in the evening.

Guided Meditation

Daily morning and evening meditation, incorporating mindfulness and mantra-based practices.

Mindful Walking

Weather permitting, exploring nature through meditative movement.

Womens’ Circle

Embracing age-old wisdom traditions that allow for women to gather, connect, and learn from one another, there will be formal and informal opportunities for women to share and inspire each other. Through deep listening and dialogue, we will spend the weekend exploring ways to keep nurturing light at home and in our communities.

Relaxation

There will be plenty of time to rest, read, wander or meditate in the gardens, nap, have a massage, connect with others and reconnect with self.

Scandinavian Dormitory (sleeps 8) - £290pp

A beautiful Scandinavian style dormitory with eight bunk beds in a stylish, cozy, clean spacious room, with 3 modern toilet and shower facilities, storage, mirrors and hanging space.
 

Fuchsia cottage (sleeps 4) - £325pp

A cottage with two bedrooms, one bedroom with a bunk bed and another with a double / twin bed. There is an open plan lounge-kitchen, and bathroom.
 

Songbird Cottage (sleeps 2) - £350pp

A one bedroom cottage with a kingsize bed, open plan lounge-kitchen, and bathroom.
 

Bumble Bee Cottage (sleeps 2) - £350pp

A one bedroom cottage with a kingsize bed, open plan lounge-kitchen, log burner, and bathroom.

 

*Included in rate: all yoga and meditation practice, all meals, snacks & teas, use of tennis court & hot tub. All accommodation includes cotton sheets, big white bath towels, a small hand towel and face flannel. Massage treatments are an additional cost. Prices are based on sharing a room. About Rashmi

Dr. Rashmi received her Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in 2004.

Majoring in comparative medical anthropology at the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York, Dr. Rashmi spent her senior year studying traditional healing modalities in southern India. Her awareness was awakened as she immersed herself into Ayurveda, India's own sacred science of living, in addition to meditation, yoga, and energy therapy.

Dr Rashmi is a certified yoga teacher and is completing a 500-hr advanced teacher training with Yoga Medicine by Tiffany Cruikshank. She is completing professional training in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) through Oasis Center for Mindfulness at the University of Massachusetts.

Drawing upon her 15+ years of personal experience and training in mind:body modalities, lifestyle medicine, and community health, Dr. Rashmi leads group classes, one-to-one consultations, and workshops on mindfulness and healthy living in medical, educational, and business settings.

Dr. Rashmi's mission is to help individuals and communities rediscover their inner nature, redefine their relationships with the world around them, and harness the power within themselves to be healthy, well, and resilient.

About Deepa

Deepa is a Level 3 Certified 300hr Forrest Yoga Teacher, an
Advanced Clinical and Remedial Massage Therapist, Aromatherapist and Reflexologist.
She is currently completing a 500hr advanced teacher training with Tiffany Cruikshank of Yoga Medicine.

As well as working privately, Deepa has worked for the NHS as a complementary therapist in oncology care.
Deepa has worked with a range of people from all walks of life: new mums, people with cancer and terminal illness, people who have suffered physical and emotional trauma. She has trained with leading practitioners and trainers in their fields including the JING Institute of Advanced Clinical Massage, Tony Porter (Advanced Reflexology Techniques), Mauricio Kruchik (Maternity & Pregnancy Reflexology) and Ana Forrest, the founder of Forrest Yoga. Deepa's experience and ongoing training has helped to develop an intuitive sense for locating restrictions in the body where, often, there is an emotional aspect attached.

Her sessions focus on improving body awareness and creating more space and freedom in the body.

In November 2016, Deepa assisted a 200hr Foundation Yoga Teacher Training. In early 2017 and 2018, Deepa completed a 10-day Vipassana meditation course.

Having experienced the benefits of yoga and meditation, Deepa wishes to continue her work towards empowering individuals through their own practice.
